SpanishTweetsCOVID-19: A Social Media Enriched Covid-19 Twitter Spanish Dataset

The COVID-19 pandemic reshaped how citizens, institutions, and governments communicated under crisis, exposing deep cultural, political, and emotional dynamics on social media. However, most analyses of these processes have focused on English-language data, leaving the Latin American public sphere underexplored. This paper introduces SpanishTweetsCOVID-19, a large-scale collection of over 278 million tweets related to the COVID-19 pandemic in Spanish language (primarily from Argentina) posted on Twitter between March 2020 and June 2021. By integrating official government communications with organic public discourse, the collection enables a fine-grained study of how information, emotions, and narratives evolved across Spanish-speaking communities, particularly in Argentina. Beyond serving as a data resource, the collection provides a foundation for investigating how communication strategies influence public engagement, the adoption of guidelines, the dynamics and spread of information, and the emergence of collective emotional patterns. It includes extensive metadata and psycholinguistic annotations that support cross-disciplinary analyses in computational social science, public health, and crisis communication. To foster transparent and reproducible research, the collection and accompanying tools are publicly available11The collection is available at: https://data.mendeley.com/datasets/nv8k69y59d/5..
