Condensed TMS approach gains momentum in depression care

For many people living with depression who haven't responded to medication, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) has emerged as a recognized alternative. The noninvasive technique uses magnetic pulses to activate targeted brain regions, but the typical course of care — daily sessions for six to eight weeks — can be a barrier for patients juggling work, caregiving, transportation or other challenges, according to UCLA Health researchers.

Abstract

For many people living with depression who haven't responded to medication, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) has emerged as a recognized alternative. The noninvasive technique uses magnetic pulses to activate targeted brain regions, but the typical course of care — daily sessions for six to eight weeks — can be a barrier for patients juggling work, caregiving, transportation or other challenges, according to UCLA Health researchers.
