Syracuse Dynamics on the Trefoil Knot: The $(2,3)$-Torus Knot as the Natural Geometry of the Collatz Conjecture
We show that the $(2,3)$-torus knot---the trefoil---provides the natural geometricframework for visualizing the structural results of the Collatz reduction theorem. The trefoil's two meridional windings encode the powers of $2$ (even steps) whileits three longitudinal windings encode the powers of $3$ (odd steps), preciselymirroring the arithmetic duality at the heart of the Syracuse map. By mapping the$21{,}632$-cell branch locus onto the torus that carries the trefoil, we obtaina visualization in which: (i) the occupied cells form a narrow diagonal band along theirrational foliation of slope $\logb 3$; (ii) the trefoil's rational slope $3/2$approximates but visibly departs from this foliation, with the gap encoding thetrajectory deficit; and (iii) the knot's three crossings correspond to the threestructural forces---Hensel attrition, Baker separation, and Weylequidistribution---that constrain Syracuse dynamics. The ghost island, a secondarycluster of $251$ cells at perpendicular distance $\sim\!370$ from the main branch locus, becomes a second luminous band on the torus, providing direct geometric evidence of theBaker kick.
