Psalm 80 The Way of the Open Heart
Psalm 80 “Children of Men” refers to the spiritual dignity of children and their unique proximity to the divine origin of humanity. The text reflects on the idea that children still carry an intuitive knowledge of truth, purity, joy and belief that adults have largely forgotten. While adults shape and educate the young, the psalm suggests that children descend into the world from a realm closer to God and gradually enter the outer circle of earthly existence, characterized by struggle, loss and transformation.
