Drivers' Willingness to Recapitalize Informal Minibus Fleets: Evidence from Ghana's Trotro Sector

The dominance of informal minibus transport services, popularly known as trotros, remains central to urban mobility in Ghana despite longstanding concerns over aging fleets, safety risks, and weak regulation. This study investigates the willingness of trotro drivers to participate in fleet downsizing, recapitalization, and modernization reforms within the Kumasi Metropolitan Area. Using a quantitative cross-sectional design, 397 valid responses were collected across seven major terminals. Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and logistic regression to examine relationships between socioeconomic factors and drivers' reform readiness. The findings reveal widespread awareness of modernization initiatives (95%) and strong willingness to recapitalize when provided with financial support.
