Research on optimization model of wavy‐ring random packing based on computational fluid dynamics simulation and theoretical analysis
Abstract A novel wavy‐ring random packing enhances liquid film flow, distribution, and renewal in distillation columns by modifying the ring's surface into a wavy shape and altering its internal structure for optimized flow. A general optimization framework for this novel packing was established. First, computational fluid dynamics simulations were conducted to analyze liquid flow characteristics along and inside the packing, identifying key parameters such as film thickness δ . Next, theoretical analysis was conducted to derive the relationship between the film thickness δ and liquid velocity u b . Furthermore, the wavy‐ring structure was precisely designed to ensure that the liquid film Reynolds number alternates above and below the critical value Re 0 , thereby achieving adequate liquid film disturbance and surface renewal. Finally, the novel packing was validated in a distillation experiment using plastic pyrolysis oil, and the product purities of acetophenone and phenol were increased by 7.48% and 13.68%, respectively.
