An Annotated Bibliography of Fundamental Methods used by Big XII Trombone Professors
Method books are the backbone for any successful music student. These compilations of musical exercises offer a basic insight into the fundamentals and techniques essential for a student to master. Studio teachers often look to how they can best provide a structured education to their fledgling musicians and often use the methods that were successful for them as a student, as well as what they see working for their students. The author has compiled selected studies and highlighted the strengths of each method, as well as the implications for their use. The use of both new and old methods allows for a simple comparison, enabling the teacher and student alike to choose the most suitable study for the occasion. This annotated bibliography of trombone methods aims to provide clarification on the methods most commonly used by current educators in the Big XII Conference. Utilizing surveys from the last thirty years, along with the numerous books available to students and teachers, it is essential to understand why specific methods are recommended more frequently than others. Focusing on the Big XII professors opens a look into the standard suggested literature within the conference itself.
