Survey on the High-Temperature Materials by Component for Hypersonic Vehicles
Research on hypersonic vehicles has been actively conducted in South Korea, with various successful developments of hypersonic vehicles.Due to the severe thermal loads caused by exposure to high-Mach number flows, the application of high-temperature materials optimized for each vehicle component is critical. This paper investigates the properties and applications of high-temperature materials, including ceramic matrix composites (CMC), fiber reinforced polymer composites (FRPC), nickel-based alloys, titanium alloys, tungsten alloys, and copper alloys. In particular, material applications for critical components such as nose tips, inlets, wings, fuselage, and combustion chambers are analyzed based on global case studies. This paper is expected to support the material selection and application strategies for the ongoing development of domestic hypersonic vehicles.
