Adherend effect on the mode I fracture energy analysis
The target of this work is to study the adherend’s effect on the mode I fracture energy. Double cantilever beam (DCB) tests are performed using a film adhesive with a titanium alloy and two different carbon fibre reinforced plastic laminates for the adherends of specimens. The work's results indicate that the average fracture energy is independent on adherend material and values remain inside the standard deviation when appropriate failure mode occurs. The composite adherends failure underlined the challenge with the delamination failure mode typical in DCB testing. The results emphasize the importance of failure mode on fracture energy, and the test data used per test post-processing method.
