Measurement of the Reaction Rate Constant for Sulfur Oxide(II) and Iodine Oxide in the 273–363 K Temperature Range by Resonance Fluorescence of Iodine Atoms

Using the method of resonance fluorescence (RF) on iodine atoms, the rate constant of the reaction between the IO radical and sulfur oxide (II) in the temperature range of 273–363 K was measured. We have obtained the following dependence of the reaction rate constant on temperature k = (0.8 ± 0.2) × 10–14e(3.0 ± 0.5[kJ/mole])/RT molecule–1 cm3 s–1, where R = 8.31 × 10–3 kJ mole–1 K–1. Possible role of this reaction in the tropopause and in the sea atmosphere is discussed.

Abstract

We have obtained the following dependence of the reaction rate constant on temperature k = (0.8 ± 0.2) × 10–14e(3.0 ± 0.5[kJ/mole])/RT molecule–1 cm3 s–1, where R = 8.31 × 10–3 kJ mole–1 K–1. Possible role of this reaction in the tropopause and in the sea atmosphere is discussed.
