Morphological and molecular studies of Dineutus grandis (Klug, 1834) in AlUla, Saudi Arabia

The study explores the morphology and genetic data of Dineutus grandis (Klug, 1834) species, gathered from AlUla, Saudi Arabia. The morphological identification was based on the description of the mesotarsal claws, protibial shape, profemoral dentation, the sub-apicoventral profemoral tooth, and elytral apices. The structure of external genitalia examined via scanning electron microscopy showed that the median lobe of D. grandis is shorter than the parameres and thinner towards the tip; the parameres are densely covered with hair. Molecular characterization was based on the mitochondrial COI primer. Fine details viewed with scanning electron microscopy and mtCOI barcoding confirm the identity of Dineutus grandis, making this the first record of the species in AlUla, Saudi Arabia.
