Comparison of basic research of major bay area international science and technology innovation centers and implications
Basic research has become an important source of scientific and technological innovation and industrial innovation, and it is of great significance for supporting and leading the construction of the international science and technology innovation center in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. In recent years, basic research in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area has shown a sound development momentum. Compared with the international science and technology innovation centers in major overseas bay areas, it has obvious advantages in high-level universities and research institutions, major scientific infrastructure, and basic research outputs. Nevertheless, there are still relatively large gaps in the basic research personnel team, major original achievements, and the impact of basic research on innovation. The level of basic research in a number of basic disciplines and key strategic fields still needs to be improved. For the National Natural Science Foundation of China is the main channel for funding basic research in China, this study focuses on giving play to its strategic role. Regarding issues such as the construction of a cross-border collaborative mechanism for scientific funds, it puts forward targeted policy suggestions, which is of great significance for further promoting resource sharing and innovation collaboration among Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, and improving the comprehensive competitiveness of basic research in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
