This study investigates changes in the position of women in scientific institutions in the 1950s and 1960s using the Oriental Institute as an example. The author outlines the development of the institute and traces the changes in opportunities opened to women and in the position of women in research from 1922 until 1972. Special attention is paid to the period after 1952, when the Oriental Institute was incorporated into the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences.
