Removal of Spent Sealed Sources of Ionizing Radiation from Non-Containerized Storage Facilities for Objects of Nuclear Legacy

The article presents possible methods for retrieving spent sealed sources of ionizing radiation from non-containerized storage facilities located at radioactive waste storage sites of FSUE RADON. It identifies problematic issues associated with solving this task. The importance and relevance of the topic are demonstrated within the framework of implementing the nuclear legacy site rehabilitation program, given the lack of experience in extracting spent sealed sources of ionizing radiation from storage facilities of this type under modern conditions. A brief description and existing structural features of non-containerized storage facilities for spent sealed sources of ionizing radiation located at radioactive waste storage sites are provided. Information on conducted and planned research and development activities aimed at implementing methods for extracting spent sealed sources of ionizing radiation from non-containerized storage facilities is presented. The practical application of extraction methods for spent sealed sources of ionizing radiation from non-containerized storage facilities within the framework of decommissioning projects of radioactive waste storage sites is described. Conclusions are drawn regarding the prospects arising from the implementation of the presented methods for extracting spent sealed sources of ionizing radiation from non-containerized storage facilities.
