A Novel Solid-State Thermal Management and Decoupled Control Architecture for High-Speed Superconducting Motors

This paper proposes a breakthrough solid-state ther mal management architecture for high-speed superconducting motors (up to 10,000 RPM). We introduce a cascaded Active Magnetic Regenerator (AMR) using a multi-layer “onion” stator topology (La-Fe-Si, Gd, ErCo2) driven by high-frequency d axis current injection. To ensure operational safety during quench events, a novel mechanical interference-fit thermal fuse is implemented, providing an instantaneous thermal resistance jump. Furthermore, a complex-vector decoupled Field-Oriented Control (FOC) with predictive delay compensation eliminates torque ripple during 5 kHz injection. Multiphysics simulations and exact continuous-domain FDM calculations validate the spatial-temporal quench isolation and zero-ripple mechanical output.

Abstract

This paper proposes a breakthrough solid-state ther mal management architecture for high-speed superconducting motors (up to 10,000 RPM). We introduce a cascaded Active Magnetic Regenerator (AMR) using a multi-layer “onion” stator topology (La-Fe-Si, Gd, ErCo2) driven by high-frequency d axis current injection. To ensure operational safety during quench events, a novel mechanical interference-fit thermal fuse is implemented, providing an instantaneous thermal resistance jump. Furthermore, a complex-vector decoupled Field-Oriented Control (FOC) with predictive delay compensation eliminates torque ripple during 5 kHz injection. Multiphysics simulations and exact continuous-domain FDM calculations validate the spatial-temporal quench isolation and zero-ripple mechanical output.
