Ceramic Data Storage for Research Objects
This is a presentation I gave at the Digital Competence Centre (DCC) Utrecht on January 13th, 2026. In it, I discuss various storage mechanism and provide an introduction to a new information carrier that is based on ceramic coated glass, which subsequently gets data etched into it using the same data encoding as QR codes. The presentation ends with a call for interest in a pilot project to trial such Ceramic Data Storage for research archival purposes, which would start late 2026 when approved by the company [Cerabyte](https://www.cerabyte.com/), who are working on producing the hardware for this information carrier.
