Incidental diagnosis of left anterior congenital diaphragmatic hernia in a full-term neonate: a rare case with accessory spleen and hepatic herniation
Introduction: A rare disorder known as congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) can cause breathing problems in babies; for best results, it is frequently best to discover and treat it early. Case presentation: On day 5, a full-term male newborn with an anterior left congenital diaphragmatic hernia had a successful surgical repair, with pulmonary hypertension resolved and a fair postoperative recovery. Clinical discussion: Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is a diaphragmatic defect allowing abdominal organs to herniate into the thoracic cavity, impairing respiratory function. In this case, non-contrast CT identified a left anterior hiatal hernia. An open surgical repair was performed on day 5 of life, revealing an atypical hernia containing vital structures, despite the absence of preceding clinical symptoms. Conclusion: In order to better understand and diagnose this rare left anterior congenital diaphragmatic hernia, medical professionals should be vigilant in light of this instance.
