Digital removable prosthodontics: are we there yet?
The integration of digital technology into removable prosthodontics is rapidly evolving, yet its full adoption remains a topic of both enthusiasm and skepticism among clinicians. This poster presents a concise, practice-oriented overview of the current digital workflow—from intraoral scanning to the design and three-dimensional printing of removable prostheses. Despite the advantages of the digital workflow, many clinicians encounter obstacles when transitioning to a fully digital approach. Common issues include soft-tissue distortion during scanning, difficulty capturing movable tissue landmarks, challenges in occlusal vertical dimension determination, and limitations in denture base adaptation. This poster offers practical clinical tips to overcome such difficulties and managing patient expectations with the digital dentures. Real case examples will be presented to illustrate these techniques and demonstrate how thoughtful integration of analog and digital steps can yield predictable outcomes. This work is relevant for any clinician transitioning from conventional to digital removable prosthodontics and, in particular, for those who are evaluating the readiness of these technologies for routine clinical use.
