NODES - SPOKE 6 Project VINO - D1.1 - D1.2 - Report on Suitability maps for grapevines and supplementary crops for actual and future climatic conditions at macro scale

This deliverable presents a GIS-based vineyard suitability assessment developed for two pilot areas, the Sardinia Region and Oltrepò Pavese, under current climatic conditions. The analysis integrates bioclimatic, soil, and topographic indicators to produce a synthetic suitability map for viticulture. High-resolution bioclimatic indices (2.2 km) were derived from climate analyses developed within RM8 and provided by CMCC through dynamically downscaled regional climate model projections. Land suitability was evaluated using a multi-criteria evaluation approach, combining crop requirements with environmental attributes in accordance with the FAO framework. The study area was classified into five suitability classes (from very suitable to permanently non-suitable), offering a comprehensive spatial tool to support vineyard planning and climate impact assessments. This document is a deliverable of the project VINO ("VIneyard management for viNeprOduction"), which proposes research for sustainable innovation supported by the digitalisation of the wine sector with the primary objective of creating new solutions and readapting existing practices to cope with the effects of climate change in viticulture. This document is part of the project NODES which has received funding from the MUR – Missione 4, Componente 2, Investimento 1.5 – Creazione e rafforzamento di “Ecosistemi dell’innovazione”, costruzione di “leader territoriali di R&S'' – del PNRR funded by the European Union - NextGenerationEU with grant agreement no. Abstract
