Metabolic Signatures of Podocytes under RAAS Overactivation: A Key to better Understand FSGS
Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is a renal disorder with diverse glomerular histological lesions. Podocytes, crucial for maintaining the glomerular filtration barrier architecture, are the primary sites of injury in FSGS. Various stresses lead to podocyte death or detachment from the glomerular basement membrane, triggering a signaling cascade that results in characteristic segmental scarring. As highly dynamic organelles, mitochondria could play a central role in FSGS. Our goal is to identify metabolic signatures and biomarkers of FSGS-inducing stresses. To this end, podocytes were exposed to components involved in hypertension, such as aldosterone and angiotensin II.
