من المجلات إلى الأدب: دور صور الدوريات الفرنسية في صياغة استراتيجيات الترجمة في دار الهلال (1949-1960)
This paper examines the pivotal role of the French-language magazine Images (1927–1960), published by the Egyptian publishing house Dar Al Hilal, in shaping and promoting literary translations during the mid-twentieth century. Positioned at the crossroads of journalism and literature, Images operated as both a cultural mediator and a marketing platform, fostering a Francophone public sphere in Egypt while strategically advertising translated novels that would later form the renowned Rewayat Al Hilal collection. Grounded in translation studies and paratextual analysis, this research investigates the advertising strategies deployed in Images, including its transparency about circulation figures, accessible pricing, and editorial framing of literary translations—particularly those of Georges Simenon between 1949 and 1960. Through a critical study of archival material and statistical data, the paper highlights how images functioned as a bridge between journalistic discourse and literary production, simultaneously shaping the reception of foreign authors and reinforcing Dar Al Hilal’s position in the Egyptian publishing market. By situating Images within the broader dynamics of the Egyptian literary polysystem, this research enhances comprehension of the intersections between journalism, translation, and cultural capital in a multilingual and postcolonial context.
