On the Dissolution of Rare-Earth Permanent Magnets in Hydrochloric Acid
The behavior of rare-earth magnets NdFeB (N45UH) and Sm2Co17 in hydrochloric acid solutions of various concentrations is examined. Studies were carried out to assess the solubility and stability of materials during the operation of installations in underground corrosive environments containing HCl. It has been shown that NdFeB magnets actively dissolve to form neodymium and iron chlorides, accompanied by the release of hydrogen, while Sm2Co17 magnets retain their structure and chemical resistance. The results obtained are of importance for the selection of materials and the development of methods for protecting equipment operating in acidic environments.
