The Renewal of the Theological Discourse on the Beginning of Life: The Development of the Campaigns Day for Life of the Spanish Episcopal Conference

Abstract This study examines the development of the theological discourse on the beginning of human life evident in the “Day for Life” campaigns of the Spanish Episcopal Conference. Historically, pro-life campaigns in Spain, often rooted in Christian activism, have adopted an aggressive and politically charged rhetoric that has polarized public opinion. This study analyses the campaigns of the Spanish Episcopal Conference, showing their communicative development since the pontificate of Pope Francis. While maintaining continuity in terms of doctrine, the study shows a development of the campaigns both in the content and style of the posters and in the messages of the bishops. The final part of the study seeks to propose a contemporary Christian public theology that abandons divisive rhetoric, promoting instead a dialogue-based approach that emphasizes human dignity and the sacredness of life, encouraging constructive engagement within pluralistic societies.
