Neonatal Mediastinal Teratoma: A Case Report
Abstract Mediastinal teratomas are the second most common extragonadal teratomas in children. They can be detected as mediastinal mass during routine prenatal ultrasound screening. Our case report shows neonates (female) with severe respiratory distress syndrome and cardiogenic shock due to pressure on the lungs, heart, aorta and systemic veines. Early surgical intervention is important but outcome depends on the stage of development of the mediastinal organs and complications in the postoperative period.
