ORTHODONTIC AND ORTHOGNATIC SURGICAL TREATMENT OF A PATIENT WITH CLEFT PALATE: CASE REPORT
Objectives: Orthognathic surgery is a treatment method that repositions the maxilla and mandibleto correct severe skeletal deformities and malocclusions, thereby improving anatomicalrelationships, functionality, and facial aesthetics. Studies have reported that Class III malocclusion isobserved in 73.9% of patients with an isolated cleft palate. The aim of this case report is to presentthe orthodontic and orthognathic surgical treatment stages and outcomes of a patient with Class IIImalocclusion and an isolated cleft palate. Case Report: The patient’s treatment plan included fixed orthodontic treatment with the extractionof teeth 15 and 25, followed by orthognathic surgery. During the fixed orthodontic treatment, themaxillary and mandibular arches were leveled, and decompensation was achieved, after which thepatient underwent orthognathic surgery. In the surgical procedure, the maxilla was advanced by 6mm using a single-piece Le Fort I osteotomy. Post-treatment cephalometric analysis yielded thefollowing findings: SNA: 81.3°, SNB: 80°, ANB: 1.3°, SNGoGn: 27.4°, and IMPA: 86.4° Conclusions: The aesthetic and functional dentofacial improvements achieved through fixedorthodontic treatment and orthognathic surgery in a patient with skeletal Class III malocclusion andan isolated cleft palate resulted in successful outcomes with high patient satisfaction. Keywords: orthodontics, orthodontic surgery, cleft palate, maxillary advancement
