Hemşirelerin Yapay Zekâ Kullanım Farkındalıklarının ve Etkileyen Faktörlerin Belirlenmesi
As in all areas of our lives, technology and artificial intelligence (AI) applications have begun to be used with increasing frequency in the nursing profession. This study was conducted to determine nurses’ AI awareness and the factors affecting this awareness. This study, which used a cross-sectional descriptive design from quantitative research methods, was conducted between 01 November 2023 and March 30, 2024, in a state hospital located in a province in eastern Turkey. Data were collected face-to-face and online using the ‘Personal Information Form’ and Artificial Intelligence Usage Awareness (AIUA)’ questionnaire forms created by reviewing the literature. The study sample comprised of 416 nurses. As a result of the analysis of the findings obtained from the study, it was determined that nurses’ AI awareness was above the medium value. In this study, it was determined that those who follow the technology, those with higher education levels, those of younger age, those with fewer working years and weekly working hours in the profession, those working in intensive care (adult-newborn) and surgical clinics, and those who are operating theatre nurses have higher AI awareness. In this study, the Decision Tree Model was used to determine the AI awareness of nurses. According to this model, a nurse's level of awareness about artificial intelligence can be estimated by examining whether she/he follows technology at a rate of 70%, whether she/he works in a technology-intensive environment, and her/his position in the clinic where she works. In this study, it was concluded that the AI awareness of nurses was above the medium value, and factors such as education level, age, professional experience, the clinic where they worked, their position in the clinic, weekly working time, and the status of following the technology affected their AI awareness. It may be recommended to provide training for nurses in which AI and the factors affecting it are considered and included in the nursing curriculum.
