The Rodent-borne Pathogens Network supports biodiversity research at the Museum Koenig

08/29/2025 - As part of its small mammal collection, the rodent-borne pathogens network at the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institute has obtained over 10,000 tail samples from small mammals, including those from the northern vole (Alexandromys oeconomus) and the harvest mouse (Micromys minutus). These frozen tissue samples are now being sent to the Leibniz Institute of Biodiversity Science and Ecology (LIB) and will be added to the biobank at the Museum Koenig in Bonn. There, they will be stored in the new nitrogen-cooled cryogenic storage facility and made available to the scientific community in the future. The network has previously supported the German Barcode of Life (GBOL) activities at the museum.

Abstract

08/29/2025 - As part of its small mammal collection, the rodent-borne pathogens network at the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institute has obtained over 10,000 tail samples from small mammals, including those from the northern vole (Alexandromys oeconomus) and the harvest mouse (Micromys minutus). There, they will be stored in the new nitrogen-cooled cryogenic storage facility and made available to the scientific community in the future. The network has previously supported the German Barcode of Life (GBOL) activities at the museum.
