This plant, which is known as“damkorugu” and grows in rocky areas, is also called golden herb because of itsgolden yellow flowers. The plant, which is preferred in traditional medicinefor its anti-inflammatory, hemostatic and antifungal properties, is suggestedto be used in nutritional supplements as a functional food ingredient. In thecontemporary era, there is a gradual increase in health problems caused byincreasing environmental problems and radiological exposure. In studies, it isstated that plants may have preventive properties against various diseases dueto the antioxidant components they contain. In this study, ultrasonic-assistedextraction was carried out with two different solvent mixtures, glycerol-water(50% v/v) and methanol-water (50% v/v), using flowers, buds, leaves and stemsof the damkorugu. Following extractions, the antioxidant capacity wasdetermined using spectroscopic methods the ABTS, CUPRAC and FRAP and the totalphenolic content was determined by Folin Ciocalteu method. High PerformanceLiquid Chromatography (HPLC-DAD) was used for the quantitative determination ofphenolic compounds in each extract. The main phenolic components identified inthe extracts were resveratrol, kaempferol 3-β-D-glucoside, quercitrin andhyperoside. The methanol-water extract of the damkorugu flower was determinedas the extract with the highest antioxidant properties. The cytotoxic effect ofthis extract was determined on MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 cell lines usingSulforhodamine B test. The extract significantly inhibited both cell linesdepending on the concentration.
