GREEN VEHICLE ROUTING PROBLEMS AND A CASE STUDY
Green Logistics is an approach that aims to minimize costs by incorporating economic and environmentalobjectives into the traditional goals of distribution management. Studies on Green Logistics address topics suchas the use of electric vehicles, renewable energy, shared vehicle usage, intelligent transportation systems, fuelefficiency, low-emission vehicles, and route optimization. Considering that transportation constitutes a majorpart of logistics, environmentally sensitive logistics policies can lead to a sustainable distribution network withfewer negative impacts on the environment and ecology by changing the transportation network. In this context, the type of problem addressed in vehicle routing studies is called the 'Green Vehicle Routing Problem (GVRP).Since it is known that a significant portion of CO2 emissions originates from transportation, one of the solutionsapproaches to GVRP is the minimization of the carbon footprint. Various approaches are used in calculating thecarbon footprint, with the Tier-1 method being the most general and widely used. This study addresses a bi-objective GVRP that aims to minimize both the total distance and the carbon footprintof the route. An application conducted on student shuttle services determined the shortest routes that alsominimize the carbon footprint for these school services. According to the study's findings, the new routes canresult in an 11% reduction in carbon footprint. <br>
