Comprehensive Characterization of Activated Carbon Functionalized With Fe3O4 and L-Arginine
Activated carbon (AC) is considered to be one of the most popular and widely used adsorbents in water and wastewater treatment worldwide. Physical, chemical, biological modification methods are used to increase the adsorption capacity of activated carbon. In this study, the effects of chemical modification using nitric acid and Fe3O4-L-arginine on the structural and chemical properties of activated carbon were investigated. Characterization analysis of AC modified with nitric acid and Fe 3O4-L-arginine was determined by scanning electron microscope (SEM), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometer (FTIR) analysis. From the BET data, it is understood that the specific surface area of the prepared Fe3O4-L-arginine@AC is 249.83 m2/g and pore volume is 0.30 cm3/g.
