Modeling of Metal Shrinkage in the Slab Continuous Casting Mold

The results of mathematical modeling of slab shrinkage with different carbon contents (0.05, 0.13, and 0.33%) in a slab continuous casting mold have been considered. The modeling was performed at various casting rates (0.8, 1.0, and 1.2 m/min). It is shown that with increasing the casting rate, the shrinkage decreases, and the carbon content greatly affects the shrinkage. When studying the shrinkage of the slab in the mold in comparison with conicity of its walls, it was found that conicity most closely corresponds to the shrinkage of the slab faces for alloys with a carbon content of 0.33%. In other cases, mold conicity is insufficient.
