Letter to the Editor: Nuanced considerations on the association between childhood movement behaviors and adolescent mental health
The longitudinal study by Werneck et al. (2025) prospectively examined the associations between device-measured physical activity and sedentary time in childhood and mental health outcomes in adolescence, providing valuable evidence to the field. This letter offers a critical appraisal of the aforementioned study, discussing potential limitations and alternative interpretations of its findings within the context of the existing literature. Future research should integrate contextual data, differentiate across behavioral domains, and employ study designs more suited for causal inference to inform targeted interventions.
