SEFI-R: Segment-Event Fault Injection and Recovery Method for Resilient Electrochemical Energy Storage Systems
SEFI-R (Segment-Event Fault Injection and Recovery) is an open technical disclosure describing a standardized method for controlled fault injection and recovery validation in segmented electrochemical energy storage systems. The method introduces a reproducible electrical event at segment level using controlled impedance coupling to emulate early-stage leakage or fault conditions without inducing destructive failure mechanisms. System response is evaluated through measurable recovery metrics, including impedance recovery (Recov(Z)), voltage noise behavior, thermal response, and isolation reaction time. The disclosure defines a chemistry-agnostic validation framework applicable to lithium-ion, lithium-metal, solid-state, sodium-ion, and future electrochemical storage architectures. The objective is not cell design optimization but the establishment of a repeatable resilience verification methodology suitable for cross-laboratory comparison, safety validation, and future standardization efforts under emerging battery regulatory frameworks. This publication constitutes an open prior technical disclosure intended to enable reproducible implementation while preventing exclusive proprietary claims over the described validation methodology.
