Post fire performance of interior two-way RC beam to column joint strengthened with CFRP sheets subjected to cyclic loading

Abstract Post-fire performance of beam-column joints can be repaired or restored using different strengthening techniques. This study focuses on interior two-way column and beam joint enhanced by CFRP subjected to cyclic loading by using ABAQUS software. The seismic performance of reinforced concrete (RC) interior two ways beam column joint following fire exposure was investigated in the literature and experimental testing were used to validate the model by FE. These tests exhibited good fit with numerical result of FEA. To obtain further insight into the performance of interior beam to column joint strengthened with CFRP, parametric studies on influential variables such as concrete grade, CFRP thickness, axial compression ratio, and fire exposure duration were carried out. The evaluations were performed for all parameters in order to look at the strengthened joint of load carrying capacity, stiffness deterioration, and dissipation of energy. The findings revealed that by enhancing concrete’s grade, adding CFRP thickness, raising the ratio of axial compression, and reducing fire exposure period the capability to carry a load of the fire-damaged joint was raised by 29.27%, 28.65%, 28.41%, and 25.64%, respectively. Therefore, it has been determined that improving the grade of the concrete performs better than increasing the thickness of CFRP.

Abstract

Therefore, it has been determined that improving the grade of the concrete performs better than increasing the thickness of CFRP.
