Information processing capability and supply chain resilience: external environment and internal control perspectives

Purpose In the global context, the security and stability of supply chains are crucial prerequisites for ensuring a smooth economic cycle. This study aims to examine whether and how the enhancement of firms’ information processing capability can contribute to supply chain resilience. Design/methodology/approach This study used panel data from 2011 to 2021 that includes Chinese A-share listed manufacturing firms. And this study used multiple regression analysis to explore the impact of information processing capability on supply chain resilience. Findings This study shows that supply chain resilience is significantly improved by improving information processing capability. Improving internal control quality and lowering external environmental uncertainty are the main ways that the effect is accomplished. External market information transparency positively moderates the promoting effect of information processing capability on supply chain resilience. Information processing capability plays an important role in increasing supply chain resilience of enterprises with high degree of digital transformation and low supplier concentration and those in regions with low degree of marketization. Originality/value This study shows that information processing capability plays an important role in increasing supply chain resilience. From the perspectives of internal control and external environment, it also clarifies the essential routes to enhancing resilience. This study is crucial for strengthening supply chain security and enhancing enterprise information management and decision-making.
