Simultaneous measurement of large dynamic range transmitted wavefront and full-aperture diopter distribution for progressive addition lenses based on optical deflectometry

Free-form optical lenses, notably progressive addition lenses (PALs), offer significant advantages in aberration correction. The transmitted wavefront and full-aperture dioptric power are key parameters for evaluating their performance. However, simultaneous high-precision measurement of both parameters over a large dynamic range remains challenging. This paper proposes an optical deflectometry-based method to address this gap. Through numerical simulation validation, the method achieves a theoretical wavefront accuracy better than λ/100. By combining the reconstructed wavefront with differential geometry, the spherical and cylindrical power distributions of a commercial PAL are derived. Experimental results show that the average relative deviation is within 5% compared to measurements from an auto-lensmeter and a commercial visual lens mapper. The proposed approach provides a simple yet comprehensive solution, integrating the large dynamic range of deflectometry with full-field analysis capability for efficient and high-quality assessment of free-form lenses.
