THE SEQUENTIAL LEARNING MODEL: BUILDING STEPWISE EDUCATIONAL JOURNEYS TO MAXIMIZE IMPACT AND PROFITABILITY
Educational offerings perform better when organized as a staged journey with explicit entry-level recall, a weekly community cadence, and credential-gated progression. This article proposes a Sequential Learning Model that couples three mechanisms—spaced retrieval, microlearning, and Community-of-Inquiry design—with stackable micro-credentials and subscription analytics. Evidence is synthesized from ten peer-reviewed sources to specify (i) entry parameters for recall scheduling, (ii) subscription rhythms that sustain returns, and (iii) credential gates that hand learners into advanced study without reteaching. A measurement map pairs pedagogical signals (recall accuracy, cadence adherence, competency checks) with behavioral and financial indicators (return frequency, churn, conversion timing). The model yields implementable policies: 48–72-hour recall gaps at entry; weekly prompts and rotating peer feedback in the middle; badge-level competencies that unlock specialization; and time-boxed trials whose length is tuned using subscription telemetry. The target audience comprises edtech managers and academic program leads seeking reproducible learning gains and stable unit economics.
