The Role of School Culture in Shaping Student Character

Background: Student character formation has become a central concern in contemporary education, particularly in fostering self-confidence, positive values, and learning motivation. School culture is widely recognized as a critical factor influencing students’ behavioral and psychological development. However, limited studies have explored how school culture contributes to character formation through structured field introduction programs such as School Field Introduction Program 1 (PLP 1). Aim: This study aims to investigate the influence of school culture on student character formation, specifically in terms of self-confidence, positive values, and learning motivation, as observed during the implementation of PLP 1 activities. Method: This research employed a qualitative approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and participatory observation to capture authentic interactions, behavioral patterns, and cultural practices within the school environment. The data were analyzed thematically to identify patterns related to character development. Results: The findings indicate that school culture plays a significant role in shaping student character. Supportive interactions, positive school norms, structured activities, and value-based practices embedded in daily routines contribute to strengthening students’ self-confidence, reinforcing positive values, and enhancing learning motivation. Conclusion: The study concludes that a positive and well-structured school culture serves as a foundational element in fostering student character development. These findings provide practical implications for schools to intentionally cultivate supportive cultural environments that promote holistic student growth.
