Time as a Morphogenetic Condition in Design: Design as Event

This paper establishes time as a morphogenetic condition in design, rather than a neutral parameter or procedural backdrop. It argues that form emerges through temporal organization—via continuity, rupture, repetition, and stabilization—rather than through representational intent or linear sequencing. Building from Aristotelian accounts of time, motion, causality, and entelechy, it reframes design as an event-structure in which temporal constraints generate morphic necessity. Against dominant process-oriented methodologies, it shows how temporal multiplicity underwrites the emergence, persistence, and intelligibility of form, and it identifies a limit-case in which representation detaches from causal genesis and drifts toward self-referential surface. The contribution positions Design as Event as a coherent theoretical framework grounded in temporal causality: design is the architecture of temporal conditions under which form becomes necessary.
