Alpha-1-microglobulin in first morning urine. Clinical interest
The first urine sample of the morning can be used to quantify alpha-1-microglobulin due to its good correlation with 24-h urine samples, as well as not being affected by age or gender. A quantification > 7.08 (mg/L)/g creatinine in the first morning urine should raise suspicion of the onset of tubular damage, especially in hypertensive or diabetic patients.
