Studies on Anti-inflammatory Effects of Gyejigamcho-tang Extracts

Gyejigamcho-tang (GG) is documented as a treatment for abnormal heart palpitations in Korean medicine. In this study, we investigated the anti-inflammatory effects of a water extract of GG on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced RAW 264.7 cells. We first measured the levels of nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E₂ (PGE₂), which are key products involved in inflammatory processes. Additionally, we assessed the levels of enzymes, such as inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), and cytokines, including interleukin 6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), and interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β). Our results showed that GG suppressed the production of NO and PGE₂ in a dose-dependent manner and reduced both the protein levels and mRNA expression of iNOS and COX-2. Furthermore, GG decreased the mRNA expression of IL-6, TNF-α, and IL-1β. In conclusion, GG demonstrated the ability to reduce the production of LPS-induced inflammatory factors, suggesting its potential for clinical research into the treatment of inflammatory diseases.
