Thailand’s Sport Broadcasting Landscape: Policy, Progress, and Prospects

Over the past several decades, Thailand has undergone significant transformations in sport media policy, driven by shifts in national governance. The transition from conventional sport broadcasting to digital sport media has introduced several key challenges for Thai society. As the government plays a crucial role in the development of sports at the national level, public policies have a substantial impact on how the population consumes sport media. These policies influence the broadcasting of sports, the availability of sport content to audiences, and the overall structure of the broadcasting marketplace. Given the importance of public policy in sport media, this article examines the landscape of sport broadcasting in Thailand. It provides a historical overview based on an analysis of gray literature available in the public domain and offers a critical assessment of the current issues and challenges facing sport broadcasting in the post-digital media era. The ultimate aim is to present an academically grounded discussion that informs future directions for public policy in sport broadcasting.
