Note from Guest Editors
This collection of selected morpho-syntactic contributions stemming from presentations at the 21st International Congress of Linguists (ICL, Pozna 2024) constitutes a tribute and a token of our appreciation for Professor Przemysaw Tajsner on his retirement.Przemysaw Tajsner is an inquisitive scholar, a patient teacher, a reliable colleague and a trusted friend. He has been playing an extremely prominent role in our Department of English-Polish Comparative Linguistics for nearly 45 years. His vast and varied research interests extend from the Government and Binding concept of Case (as demonstrated in his doctoral thesis Case-marking in English and Polish: A Government and Binding study, 1990), through the interface between formal syntax and information structure and the encoding of topic and focus by means of word order permutations (Minimalism and functional thematization: A cross-linguistic study, 1998; Aspects of the grammar of focus: A minimalist view, 2008) up to biolinguistic foundations of language (Biolingwistyka a rola cech leksykalnych w skadni, 2023) and the linguistic prowess of ChatGPT (this volume). For many years Professor Tajsner has been the pivot of teaching activities concerned with syntax and English grammar from the theoretical viewpoint. He is always remembered well and appreciated by his students for his ability to patiently and effectively explain all complexities in syntactic representations and their structural interpretations. His teaching has not been limited to the undergraduate level but has also included the supervision of Ph.D. dissertations.
