Changing Trends in Forestry in Southeast Asia and the Initiatives of the JIRCAS Forestry Project
Timber production in Southeast Asia has shifted markedly from harvesting natural forests to relying on plantation forests. The objective of the JIRCAS project is consistent with this trend in its focus on sustainable timber production through planting and managing planted forests. However, it differs in emphasizing indigenous tree species. In the context of climate change, research on adaptability to environmental changes is essential to prevent severe ecological and economic impacts.
