The chromosomal genome sequence of the demosponge, Geodia phlegraei (Sollas, 1880) (Tetractinellida: Geodiidae) and its associated microbial metagenome sequences

<ns3:p> We present a genome assembly from an individual <ns3:italic>Geodia phlegraei</ns3:italic> (Porifera; Demospongiae; Tetractinellida; Geodiidae). The genome sequence has a total length of 112.58 megabases. Most of the assembly (99.95%) is scaffolded into 21 chromosomal pseudomolecules. The mitochondrial genome has also been assembled, with a length of 18.04 kilobases. Gene annotation of this assembly by Ensembl identified 19 481 protein-coding genes. From the metagenome data, we recovered 248 bins, of which 88 were high-quality MAGs, including 16 fully circularised genomes. The microbial profile was characteristic of high microbial abundance (HMA) sponges with bins representing 20 different phyla and candidate phyla. Most MAGs were affiliated with the phyla Acidobacteriota, Pseudomonadota and Chloroflexota as well as several candidate phyla ( <ns3:italic>Ca.</ns3:italic> Latescibacterota, Tectimicrobiota, Poribacteria, Binatota, Saccharibacteria, and <ns3:italic>Ca.</ns3:italic> Woesearchaeota). </ns3:p>
