A Rare Coexistence of Thrombophlebitis and Endocarditis in a Patient with Candida auris Infection: A Case Report with Review
Candidemia is not uncommon in immunocompromised individuals, although thrombophlebitis of the central veins caused by Candida and intracardiac extension of it is rare. After COVID era, there is a surge of antifungal resistant strains of Candida like Candida auris (C.auris).After review of literature, it has been seen that if there is intracardiac extension of the fungal thrombus, it eventually develops attachments to endocardium which warns the early requirement of surgical debridement of the fungal mass with atypical newer antifungal agents like Caspofungin alongside.Endocarditis caused by Candida which usually spares the valves and involves the interatrial septum is also not the exception. Here we present a case of immunocompromised young male having intracardiac fungal thrombus with septal attachments.
