A case of odontoma removed using a Le Fort Ⅰ osteotomy

Removal of an odontoma through the alveolar bone and maxillary sinus in the maxillary molar region is technically challenging owing to the large amount of bone removed, as well as difficulty with securing an optimal operative field and the manoeuvrability of instruments. We report a case of an odontoma that resulted in elevation of the maxillary sinus floor, which we removed using a Le Fort I osteotomy.A 15-year-old female visited our hospital for evaluation of radiographically documented opacities in the left maxillary molar region.Initial panoramic radiography and computed tomography revealed an odontoma-like lesion (272318 mm) extending from the apex of the distal root of the left maxillary second molar to the maxillary sinus floor. In July 202X, we performed a Le Fort I osteotomy for the excision of the lesion, which was histopathologically diagnosed as a complex odontoma. We observed no recurrence or malocclusion one year postoperatively, and the patient had a good course.
