QUALITY BY DESIGN IN MOOCS: DEVELOPING A TEN-DIMENSIONAL INSTRUCTIONAL FRAMEWORK

Over a decade since their introduction, Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) continue to evolve in response to growing learner participation and increasing design demands. This study introduces the 10 Dimensions Model, a practical instructional design framework aimed at enhancing the quality of MOOC construction. Drawing on a synthesis of prior literature, established quality guidelines, and empirical research, the study critically examines core MOOC elements such as content structure, sequencing, assessment strategies, and learner support systems. Based on these findings, prescriptive design strategies are proposed to address persistent challenges in MOOC development. The 10 Dimensions Model integrates these strategies with evidence-based instructional design principles and tools, offering a comprehensive guide to inform and improve MOOC design practices. This model serves as a practical resource for educators and designers seeking to elevate the learning experience and effectiveness of MOOCs.
