An investigation into the upper limit of the rate of switching ripple communication

Switching ripple communication has emerged as a novel technology which inherently integrates power delivery and data transmission in power converters. However, its communication rate is fundamentally limited by the carrier frequency of the converter. To raise the rate of switching ripple communication, some alternative strategies, including non-orthogonal FSK modulation, have been proposed recently to facing the challenge. In this paper, a comprehensive investigation into the upper limit of the rate of switching ripple communication is presented, with particular focus on the non-orthogonal modulation strategy where the key factors such as filter distortion are systematically considered via semi-theoretical, semi-numerical means. Finally, a detailed result on the upper limit of the rate of switching ripple communication is obtained.
