A refined assessment method for load loss during large - scale blackouts considering control response characteristics
As renewable energy penetration increases, operational uncertainty in power systems has risen sharply. In large-scale systems subject to frequent extreme weather events, cascading failures have become a major risk for wide-area blackouts, particularly in high-renewable power systems. Uncontrolled load shedding during such events would aggravate instability and hinder system recovery. To address this, a refined load loss assessment method is proposed. It can consider load response characteristics and the logic of multiple control measures. This method comprehensively considers the response behavior of load to voltage-frequency disturbance and the control measures in the system. In the simulation, the IEEE-30 system is used to generate fault scenarios combined with Monte Carlo method, and the load loss under different control strategy combinations is quantified. The results indicate that this method can effectively reflect the load loss characteristics of each control measure in the multi-fault scenario and realize the refined evaluation of load loss.
